$2.4 billion in tribal trust funds missing

The Native American Rights Fund files a class action lawsuit against the Secretary of the Interior for mismanagement of more than $2.4 billion in tribal trust funds collected from companies leasing Native lands held in trust. Since 1837, Congress ended direct payments to tribes for leased lands and the Bureau of Indian Affairs was to manage the monies to be held in trust for the tribes.
